It is now almost four days since Mr. Jack Latchford was admitted to the Cook Hospital as the result of a fall from a horse, and this morning he was reported to be still unconscious.

McKinley arid Miss Clayton.

Experimental machinery for ;he treating of flax pulp for the manufacture of artificial silk and rayon, is being sot up at Winchester, Canterbury. The new machinery is being erected in Messrs. Afaddren Brothersformer flax mill, which has been closed lor the last three years, and arrangements have been made for the employment of about 10 men.

The Hawke’s Bay .and East Coast Aero Club’s Desoutter monoplane, piloted by Flight-Lieut. Gerrand, arrived about midday yesterday, bringing Mr ,1. Mogridge to attend' the diamond jubilee celebrations of Loyal Gisborne Lodge, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows. The plane left shortly after for Dunedin, calling .at Hastings on route to pick tt'p a passenger for the South Island city.

The poor condition of the Wainni road, a secondary highway, was the subject of considerable discussion at the last meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. It was stated numerous complaints had been made to councillors about the road, which runs through a fertilo valley and shortens the distance between Opotiki and

Whakatane by’over 10 miles. The road was considered a necessity, particularly in view of tho fact that the main highway through the Waimana G.orge was sometimes blocked by slips. 11. was resolved to request the Whakatane County Council to place the road in a condition to enable traffic to use it at all seasons of the year. There was a large attendance at the annual dinner of the Old Boys’ Football Club, held in the Freesia reception rooms .m Saturday night. The gathering was presided out by Mr. K. A. Woodward, who congratulated the club on the passing of its sixteenth year. During the evening the president presented the junior and third grade trophies to the captains of the two teams.
