TOURIST POSSIBILITIES
SOUTH ISLAND INTERESTS
Representatives of tourist interests, the Public Works ami Railway Departments, road transport ami county councils assembled at The Hermitage, Mt. 'Cook, last week-end. The gathering was the outcome of a similar function last year, when the Soulh Island Tourist League was formed. The part}’, which numbered 100, visited the Ball Hut, at the Tasman Glacier, and also made trips to other places of interest. Speeches wore made at the official dinner, the general tone being the need for the development of a “tourist sense.” Speakers that the South Island possessed " attractions unequalled in the world, hut there was a need for judicious advertising. Tourists were at present well catered for in the way of transport and accommodation, but people were not taking enough interest in the tourist possibilities.
A visitor, Mr A. F. Clayer, trade controller of railways, Adelaide, paid a tribute to the New Zealand Railways, stating they were equal to anything in the world.
