TO AVOID SALES TAX
SYDNEY WATER BOARD SYDNEY, Nov. 23. Having failed to persuade the Federal Government to rebate sales tax pftiditiL materials purchased for public works; Sydney Water Board proposes to call tenders shortly for the erection of a plant and machinery depot at Waterloo, and to manufacture there much of its own requirements. The programme will involve an expenditure of £40,000, which is approximately the amount which the board disbursed in sales tax this year. Tt was stated to-day that the money paid in sales tax would have provided temporary employment for 400 men.
