PREPARING TO START
WELLINGTON’S NEW STATION No time is .being lost by the Fletcher Construction Company in making ’preparations for a start on the construction of the new railway station at Wellington. The actual site of the major portion of the new station has never been-built • upon since the land was reclaimed half a century ago. The only strip of the site which has borne a building is the Featherston street ■frontage, where is situated the district manager’s office. This building will probably not be pulled down or removed for about two months, as there is no immediate necessity for a clearance of the area on that side. On the Waterloo quay side of the station block, however, there is marked activity. Great mounds of building timber, concrete boxing, and other material have already been accumulated on the site, ready for an actual start with the building operations, which will, of course, commence with the heavy foundation work, especially heavy on account of the site being wholly on reclaimed land.
