PIGEON FLYING
GISBORNE CLUB’S RACE The Gisborne Flying Club Hold its third event in the second series of tho old bird season on Saturday, when a race from Thames was staged, over an airline distance of 176 miles. Tho weather was again ideal, though a head wind prevented the birds from putting up fast times. The race resulted in a popular win for F. Green, who also secured the second prize. The result was as follows: — F. Green’s b.c.c. Reliance and b.c. Spiker, 931.5yd5. per min., equal, 1 and 2; F. B. Wildsih’s b.c.h. Miss Midget., 884.5yd5. per min., 3. Next Saturday the club will hold u race from Auckland. POVERTY BAY SOCIETY. The Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society held its second race across Cook Strait on Saturday, the event being from Pieton, over an airline distance of 290 miles. The winning bird took 9k. ftmin., a very creditable performance over such a long distance.. No advice was received by the secretary as to the weather conditions prevailing in Pieton on Saturday morning when tho birds were released. The winning bird, owned by Mr* \\. Duustan, completed the distance at a velocity of 900yds, per min., a performance of which the owner should be justly proud. The placed birds were all close together. Twenty-one birds, representing 12 lofts, competed in the race, which resulted as follows: IV. Dunstan’s Gay Sheila, 900.4yd5. per min., 1; F. Dunstan’s Whaka, 893.2yd5. per min., 2; E. Stephenson’s Red Diamond, 879.9yd5. per min., 3; E Jackson’s Grand Sport. 876.88yd5. per min., 4; G. Cudd’s Joy Stick, 870.4vd5. per min., 5; P. R lord an s Nigger Minstrel, 869.3yd5. per min., 6; j. Forster’s Shock, 865vds. per rain., 7; W. Marshall’s The Roof, 835yds. per min.,*B. Also competed: L. -Tackson’s Blue Beard and Black Boy, tDunstan’s Willows Queen, Kingsford Smith Seagull, and Golden Dawn, E. Jackson’s White Cap and White Flight, E. Stephenson’s Lady Rona, W. Dunstan’s Bandy, T. Bolgcr’s Don Miguel, J. McLean’s Lightning, and M. Sharp’s Dope and John Bull.
