PATUTAHI NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) Perfect weather prevailed for the opening of the Patutahi Croquet Club on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of local and visiting players. The lawns were in excellent condition and interesting competitions wore contested, some being the source of much merriment. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed in the hall which adjoins the greens. The following were the winners of the various events:— Bull's eye : Mrs. Bade. French croquet: Mrs. Peach, 1; Mrs. Wilson, 2; Mrs. Derbyshire, 3. Clock croquet: Mrs. McGaveston. Mesdames McDermott and Fade controlled the games. At the conclusion of play the president, Mrs. J. B. Clark, presented the prizes. The following participated in tlio games:— Mesdames J. Ib Clark, E. R. Renner, Jennings (Poverty Bay), L. Allen, R. Fade, Wilson (Poverty Bay), Miss Brooking (To Ilapara), A. McGavcston, McDermott, Ashworth (Poverty Bay), C. Cusack, C. Peach, Derbyshire, Bayliss and McKee (Poverty Bay), J. IT. Montoith and M. Hogan.
The tennis courts were also the scene of much activity over the week-end, when a Yankee doubles tournament was commenced. A dainty afternoon tea .was served in the pavilion, the hostesses being Mrs. Williams and Miss Rita Atkins. The following took part in the games : Mesdames A. Wilson and O. Williams; Misses R. Atkins, G. Fade, D. Wilson, M. McDermott, A. Mnrtngh, B. Waeffler. G. Rathio, and K. Walker; Messrs. C. Borland, J. Mackie, P. Williams, C. Cusack, O. Williams, C Wilson, W. Clark. H. Ritchie. R, Williams. 11. Campbell, W. Smiler, and L. Thodey. Mrs. If. Bobjohns. who has been on an extended visit to Mrs. IT. Speight, the vicarage, has returned to Napier. —Miss Elaine Renner has -returned home from Dunedin to spend her vacation with her parents at Repongnnre.—Miss F. Friar is staving with the Misses Bilham. Airs. E. Bilham returned last week from a holiday visit to Auckland.
