THE FAT LAMB SHIELD

JUDGING PROSPECTS (MSI’OHNIPS SELECTR).V The prospects of the (lisborne exhibit in the Meat Hoard’s district fat lamb competition were discussed today with the local judge, Mr .1. Barr.

He said that the 1-1 pens selected at the Kaiti works to-dav were hardly as good as the general quality of those last year, but they were a good lot, and should do'the district justice when displayed in London. However, he did not think I hut the (lisborne display would be successful in competition for the shield. The lambs in Hawke’s Bay during the early part of the season 'were better than those received at the Kaiti works this time, for the Gisborne season was a poor one this year. The Poverty Bay lambs, however, might be expected from now on to come up to the standard of the earlier lots.

It was impossible to say at this stage which district had the best chances this year, but lie did not think that tin 1 shield would wore very far from its 'present location, Wairarnpa. He had heard, however, that the Pcilding lambs were particularly good this year.

A lot depended, lie added, on the standards of the judges appointed at Smitlifield, but speaking broadly the most acceptable lamb at Smitlifield would lie the one that 'was well finished, though at the same time with not too mil eh fat to provide any waste.
