MILLER STARS CHALLENGE HOLDERS AGAIN SUCCESSFUL 1 The holders of the Miller Tennis | Stars, M. and W. Bright, successfully [ defended a further challenge ltust evcn-j ing, winning the doubles and both ' sets of singles. The challengers were R. A. Anderson and K. Boys, of the Whataupoko Tennis Club. Play took place on the Gisborne Tennis Club’s, courts at Kaiti, and a high wind inili- ] tated against good tennis. ! The doubles were played first, and tfee Whataupoko challengers, who were handicapped o. 3.15, were evidently nervous, with the result that their serving was poor at the commencement, and allowed M. and \Y. Bright; (scr.) to run away to a lead of five before the challengers won a game. The Brights continued to combine better, and won 9—2. In the singles match between Anderson (o. 15) and M. Bright (ser.), Anderson found the net repeatedly at the commencement, and Bright secured an early lead of 5—3, and eventually ran out the winner, 9—5. Anderson played more steadily towards the end, but had left his run too late. The other singles match between • Tlpys and W. Bright was a more even and went to 11—9, Bright being the winner. Boys would have done better if he had dropped his cut stroke, especially on the forehand, and made a straight drive the foundation of his game. The next challenge for the stars also will lie from Whataupoko, the challengers being P. Ivaua and J. Craig. .
