SOUTH AFRICAN PLANS DISPOSING OF SCRUBS (Received September 11,3 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 10. The Daily Herald says the real reason for tho South African ’.s subsidy for Italian shipping companies for five years, commencing in March, of £150,*OOO annually, is that the country is overrun with scrub cattle, bringing only 20s to 30s a head, which are of too poor a quality for the British market, but suitable for the French and Italian armies, which cannot afford Argentine meat. South Africa will gladly reduce shrubs in the interests of breeding good cattle.
