Professor Malthus at present is in the University of Tasmania. Ho was educated at Timaru High School and l Canterbury College, taking his M.A. degree with first-class honors in 1912 in English and French. He taught at Nelson College till 1914. After two years’ active service die Was appointed senior master in French and English at Timaru. In 1920 ho was chosen first travelling scholar in French and spent, a year at the Sorbonno, Paris, and a year at Grenoble. In 1922 he returned to Timaru, but was appointed lecturer in modern languages at the University of 'Tasmania, anil in 1932 was given the status of associate professor.
