CRASH AT RICCARTON
SCARLET ROBE KILLED THREE JOCKEYS INJURED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. One horse was killed and three jockeys were injured at Riccarton this afternoon. After the field had entered the straight in the Papanui Handicap, Scarlet Robe, ridden by R. E. Coveny, Errantry, ridden by C. 11. Eastwood, Ileatherglow, ridden by A. H. Eastwood, and St. Joan, ridden by A. Russell, fell. Scarlet Robe was killed and the other horses galloped riderless to the post. C. E. Eastwood is in hospital with a fractured left leg, but his condition is satisfactory.
A. Russell is in hospital with head injuries and concussion: he is conscious and his condition is satisfactory.
R. Coveny is suffering from head in juries and is unconscious, but His condition is not serious.
A. IT. Eastwood suffered severely from a bruised shoulder, and was ordered home to bed.
