FAVORITES’ GOOD DAY REBEL SONG’S GREAT EASTER NOCKBURN TO 'SHATTER (Per Press Association.) OiIRJKTOIIUJJOII, last ni^ht. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn, meeting opened to-day. The weather was tine .and the attendance good. The course was in fast order. The totalisator investments were £27,497 10s, against £24,150 10s last year. \ Kildare llighweight.—2-4 Rocket (A. E. Ellis), 1; 3-3 Tea Garden (Pascoo), 2; 1-1 Royal Love (Kirwin), 3. Also ran: 0-0 Juniper, 3-5 Strong Light, 3-2 Rotlien, 8-7 Pixie Gold, 7-8 Wealth. The order into the straight was Tea Garden, Pixie Gold, Rotlien. Rocket, and Royal Love. Rocket finished best and won by half a length from Tea Garden, with Royal Love three-quarters of a length .awav. Strong Light was fourth. Time, 1.42 1-5.

Champagne Stakes. —2 Fracas (A. E. Ellis), 3; 1 Red Manfred (Morris), 2; 3 Pegged Exchange (S. Wilson), 3. Also ran: 4 Nightly. Nightly began smartly and led to the course proper from Fracas, Red Manfred and Pegged Exchange. Fracas took charge at the false rail, and won without being extended by two lengths from Red Manfred, with Pegged Exchange three lengths away. Nightly was several lengths back. Time, 1.11. Autumn Plate.—2-2 Zeebrugge (A. E. Ellis), 1; 3-4 Chief Light (B. IL Morris), 2; 8-8 Water Polo (Ludlow), 3. Also ran: G-0 Fleeting Glance, 4-3 Polvdora, 1-1 Ivenial Pasha, 7-7 Grand Review. 9-9 Eupator, 5-5 Importance, 11- Bell Hill, 10-10 Robin Hood. Grand Review and Eupator led into tin' straight from Zeebrugge .and Chiet Light. Zeebrugge drew out to win by two lengths from Chief Light, with Water Polo three lengths away. Final Shot (bracketed with Silent Flight), 4-4 Sir Leighton (bracketed with 'Sweet Agnes), 10-10 Highbrow, S-7 Glandovev 3-3 Acceptable, 5-G Gaysomc, 9-9 Sundancer, 12- Tuirau, 7-8 Sweet Arrow, 10-11 Bright Shade. June the Third ami Gaysomc were prominent early, but the leaders on to the course proper were Silent Flight, June the Third, Trivet, Sweet Agnes, Highbrow and Gaysomc. In a close finish Trivet beat Sweet Agnes by a head, with Silent Flight a neck away. Gaysomc was fourth. Time 58 4-osce.

Great Easter Handicap.—l-1 Rebel Song (A. Eastwood), 1: 2-3 Cricket Bat i(A. E. Ellis), 2; 3-2 Great Star (Coveny), 3. Also ran: 8-9 Gay Crest, 4- Ruling Light, 7-8 Irish Lancer, 11-11 Merry Peel, 3-G Martian Chief, 0-5 Gustavo, 10-10 Princess Argosy, 9-7 Ranelagh. Ruling Light was the first to show out, but rounding the far turn Great Star had charge from Cricket Bat, Gustavo, Gay Crest, Rebel Song, Ruling Light and Martian Chief. The leaders were the same passing the halfmile, and Great Star turned for home clear of Cricket Bat, followed by Rebel Song, Gustavo, and Gay Crest. In a close finish Rebel Song beat Cricket Bat by a head, with Great Star three lengths away. Gay Crest was fourth. Time, 1.26. Papanui Handicap.—l-1 Cottesmore (Wilson), 1; 4-2 Silver Streak (A. E. Ellis), 2; 2-4 Crush (Jennings), 3. Also ran: 3-4 Knock.along, 7-7 Heather ■Glow, 3-5 Manet ho, 12-12 Cleaner and Indicate • (bracketed), 9-8 Cranford, 10-10 Errantry, 11-10 Imperial Spear, 5- Moncygram, S-9 Scarlet Robe, 13-14 Jeremy, ‘ 13-13 St. Joan, 15-15 Silk Arrow. The leaders on to the course proper we: c Silver Streak, Crash. Cottesmore and Moncygram. In the run home Cottesmore beat Silver Streak by a neck, with Crash half a length away. Moncygram was fourth. Scarlet Robe, Errantry, Heather Glow and St. Joan fell, Time, 1.11.

Sockburn Handicap. —1-1 Shatter (A. E. Ellis), 1; 6-6 Kamo (Humphries), 2; 5-5 Argentic (Mackiunon). 3. Also ran: 7-7 Concentrate, 2-2 Eminent, 8-8 Jaloux, 3-2 Tout le Moml. 4-4 True Shaft. The order passing the six furlongs was True Shaft, Argentic, Jaloux, Eminent, Tout le Mond, Shatter and Eamo. True Shaft

and Argentic led across the top, and were followed into the straight bv Eminent and Shatter. The last-named drew out and won by a neck from Eamo, who finished fast, with Argentic a head away. True Shaft was fourth. Time, 1.53 2-5.
