STEEPLES TO CALLAMART HAMPTON PARK SURPRISES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting was held in fine weather. The track was in good order and there was a large attendance. The totalisator investments for the day were J2 43,791, compared with £ 30,803 10s on the second day last year, an increase of 1112,987 10s. The figures for the meeting were .£82,078, compared with £02,848 10s, an increase ot .£17,529 10s. Great Northern St. Leper.—l Silver Scorn (O’Connor), i; 2 Jonathan (Kcesing), 2. The only starters. Silver Scorn went to the front after 100yds, and going round the back was four lengths clear. Jonathan raised excitement by making a run inside the distance, but Silver Scorn responded, and was going away at the finish. Time, 3.2.

Nelson Handicap.—l-2 Kiltowyn (Atkins), 1; 3-3 Senegal (R. Reed), 2; 10- Blandford (McTavish), 3, Also ran: 4-4 Psychologist, 13-12 Chang, 9-11 Valpai, 5-5 Royal Gallant, 7-6 Desert Star, 2-1 Ruri, 18-17 Royal Visitor, 11-13 Holly Lu, 16-14 Currajong, 8-9 United, 20-20 Mahkitl, 15-16 Sandy Dix, 14-10 Great Britain, 21-19 Wee Pat, 19-21 Ruling King, 12-15 llacefield, 6-7 Tatvoon, 22-22 Durum, 17-18 Master Norval. Won by a length hml a-half, and one length. Time, 1.39 3-5. Senegal, Holly Lu, Psychologist, and Kiltowyn were the early leaders. Across the top, the order was Kiltowyn, Senegal and Psychologist. Kiltowyn was still in charge entering the straight from Great Britain, Valpai, Senegal, Kiltowyn held his position in the run home. Desert Star was fourth. Victoria Handicap.—3-3 Kerentu (Melnally), 1: 1-1 Princess Doreen (R. Reed), 2; 6-6 Sea Fox (Tremain), 3.’ Also ran: 4-5 Deputy Ruler, 5-4 d’Artagnan, 2-2 Catalogue, 10-10 Star Artist, 7-7 Rapper, 12-11 Gold Pocket, 11- Queen Nona, 9-8 Cherry King, 8-9 My Money. Won by a head, and three lengths. Time, 1.14 3-5. Star Artist and Gold Pocket made the pace in the early stages. Star Artist, Gold Pocket, and Deputy Ruler came into the straight together in front of Princess Doreen and Rereatu. Princess Doreen and Rereatu fought out the finish well clear of Sea Fox. Gold Pocket was fourth.

St. Hellers’ Hurdles. —1-1 Thespis (Burgess), I; 3-3 Solanio (Stanway), 2; 5-5 Free Air (Preston), 3. Also ran: 2-2 Emancipation, 4-4 Arch Eagle, 6-7 Standfast, 7-6 Ruby Dawn, 11-9 Zune Grey, 10-11 Demylus, 9-10 Day Lark, 13‘-12 Master Roley, 12-13 Cutoma, 8-8 Principal. Won by a head, and five lengths. Time, 3.13. Thespis and Ruby Dawn were well clear of Solania and Emancipation, until entering the straight, where Solanio ran up to Thespis. The pair fought out the finish well clear of Free Air, who took third from Ruby Dawn. Demylus fell at the last fence. Autumn Handicap.—4-3 Master Briefly (Parsons), 1; 9-9 Eager Rose (Melnally), 2; 1-2 Manawhenua (L. Dulieu), 3. Also ran: 3-5 Seatown, 6-6 Sunny Sky, 8-8 lloyal Artist, 7-7 Flying Prince, 2-1 Gold Trail, 5-4 Knight of Australia, 10-10 Valroe. Won by a head, and 2'. lengths. Time 2.32, a nice record. Eager Rose made the early running from Valroe, Knight of Australia and Manawhenua. Round the back Eager Rose was six lengths clear of Knight of Australia, Valroe, Royal Artist and Manawhenua. Across the top Eager Rose held an advantage of three lengths, next in order being Knight of Australia and Mdimwbenua. Eager Rose was first into the straight from Knight of Australia and Manawhenua. Master Briefly, which came from far back, ju.vt headed Eager Rose. In a close finish, Manawhenua displaced Knight of Australia, which was fourth.

Autumn Steeplechase.—l-l Calliimart (C. Thomson), I; 2-2 Simeon (Smith), 2; 3-3 Billy Boy (Burgess), 3. Also ran: 4-4 Lucess, 8-8 High Pitch, 7-6 Neil, 5-7 Crelna’s King, 6-5 Absent. Won by a length, and 12 lengths. Lucess, Callamart and Creina’s King were the early leaders. Creina’s King fell at the double, leaving Callamart and Lucess in front. Simeon moved up to Callamart on the hill the second lime round, Billy Boy

also coming up near the leaders. Simeon and Callamart jumped the last fence together, Callamart drawing away for a comfortable win. Lucess was fourth.

Huia Handicap.—B-8 Hampton Park (Duncan), 1; 9-9 British Columbia, 2; 7-7 Inflation (Green), 3. Also ran: 1-1 Golden Wings, 3-5 Paganelli, 5-6 Lady Quex, 2-2 Lordly Knight, 6-4 Greek Gold and Exaggeration (bracketed), 4-3 L'Allcgro, 11-11 Karangapai, 10-10 Imamint. Won by a head, and two lengths. Time, 1.12 3-5. Exaggeration was first out, but after one furlong British Columbia led Paganelli and Exaggeration. British Columbia was first into the straight from Paganelli and Lordly Knight, but was not able to withstand a strong challenge by Hampton Park, who came from the back. Golden Wings was fourth.

Islington Handicap.—6-6 Chromadyne (McTavish), 1; 3-3 Prolyxo (Wiggins), 2; 2-2 Sea Ruler (Tinker), 3. Also ran: 7-8 Merry Damon, 4-4 Aiguille, 1-1 Aga Khan, 5-5 Chief Joy, 8-7 Gay Cockade, 9-9 Gold Musk Won by II lengths, and half y. length. Time 1.37 4-5. Chromadyne was first out and led from end to end. Sea Ruler and Chief Joy were in attendance at the half-mile, the order into the straight being Chromadyne, Chief Joy, Sea Ruler. Chromadyne stayed on well. Prolyxo finished fast to take third place from Sea Ruler. Aga Khan was fourth.
