A city traffic outlet scheme of considerable interest, although it may not become either necessary or practicable for a good many years, was indicated by the city engineer, Mr. J. Tvler, in the list of possible future works, which ho submitted to the Auckland City Council, when the question of introducing al new unemployment relief policy was under 'consideration. The project is to connect Victoria street east with dittos street, Mechanics’ Bay, by means of a tunnel or tunnels about 700 yards in length for road traffic. Mr. Tyler’s estimate of the cost of a single tunnel, forming tho first stage of the schema. was £202,000. He put down the cost of a second parallel tunnel at £176.000, making £578,000 in all.
