(To tho Editor of tho Herald.) Sir,—After reading Mr. Ball s letter 1 looked again at the letter of tlie Public Trustee, but could find no answer to the points raised by Mr. Ball. The Public Trustee’s letter is well. written, and perhaps well reasoned, but it- ignores the obvious facts ot the situation. 1 searched in vain for the reason of compelling our local bodies, against thenwili, to pay these largo sums to the Public Trust Office. 1? these moneys are not- really required, it- would seem unthinkable that the Legislature should permit so great ail interference with tlie power of local government, ana * Oil the other hand; urgent need does exist, then the Public Trustee s letter is entirely silent as to the cause.
