The fact is revealed in a review of the hoot and shoe industry in the Abstract of Statistics, which also shows that the number of pairs of boots and shoes brought into use in 1931 was 3,5f8„692, against .4,482,443 in the preC6 i,M local production accounted for 1,655.324 pairs, yalued at £983.7/18, and imports consisted of 1,741,368 pairs, worth £397,650. Of the 1920 total 1,666,619 pairs were made in New Zea- • lands the value being £1.118.648, and the imports 2,815,824 pairs, valued at £844.229.
