EXPORTS INCREASE

DOMINION’S OUTPUT SIGNIFICANCE OF FALL IN PRICES Some striking figures quoted by tho Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Indusi r.ies and Commerce and Education, at tho closing-down ceremony of the Wellington Training College, throw an illuminating light on the financial position. They indicate that but for the substantial increase in production and tho volurno of exports, the Dominion’s financial situation would have been infinitely worse than it is to-day. In some instances the exports for 1931 showed increases in quality on 1929 figures of 20 to 30 per cent., but the prices realised had shown decreases from 1!) to 84 per cent. The only item in which the decrease in price has not ■ been so serious is lamb, in which the decrease in 5.3 per cent. The quantities in wool are expressed in lb., sheepskins in units, and timber in superficial feet. The other quantities are in cwts.

Of 37 exportable items only one in creased in value.
