A grass fire occurred between the railway "line and Awapuni road this afternoon. The alarm was given from the intersection of Awapuni and Roberts roads about 3 o’clock when smoko was seen issuing from beside the railway line ..several" chains behind the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Grey street stoic, but neighbors bad extinguished the flames by beating them with sacks before the brigade arrived. The fire was still smouldering, “however, and this Was given attention before the brigade returned to the station.
