A paragraph in Sporting Life indicates a possible visit to London of Tom Heeney, the New Zealand boxer. “Straight Left” writes as follows: “No one in these days wants hundreds of pounds lying idle without interest,’ writes Mr. John Mortimer, in reply to the monetary challenge made on behalf of Larry Gains to Tom Heeney, and the well-known Portsmouth promoter sends us a cheque for £SO, which, when covered, he says will “lead to business.” Immediately there is anything definite in the match-making proposition from Gains’ supporters, Mr. Mortimer says ho will make an appointment with them at the Sporting Life offices. Then, everything neiug satisfactory. Mr. Mortimer will -jiblc Heeney, who is only waiting for the word to embark at once fo l ' England from the United States. If Keeney does come over here he will be accompanied by his young sparring partner, Steve Hames, who is quite prepared to meet Gains in the event of the Canadian defeating the last British boxer to fight for the world’s heavyweight championship.
