MILLER CUP HARBOR RACE CARNIVAL ARRANGEMENTS Arrangements for the Miller Cup race across the harbor basin, and for the carnivals set down for December and January, were discussed at a meeting of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club’s committee last evening. There, were present at the meeting Miss B. Robinson, Mrs J. Heeney, and Messrs. E. T. Chrisp, chairman, M. J. Owen, C. Greig, T. Wauchop, C. E. Brown, R. Aislabie, R. Berge, S. McKenzie, D. W. McKeague, and I). H. Miller, hon. secretary. The date fixed for the harbor basin race, for the Miller Cup, is December 12, on which day the tidal conditions should be excellent. The club will have facilities for dressing, and for the care of swimmers who may require assistance. The event is a handicap one, and a good entry is expected. Carnivals were set down for December 10, December 22 January 5, and January 19. It was agreed that in view of the important fixtures ahead of the club, the championships should be held earlier than usual, and it was decided to set the title events down for decision at the. December 22 carnival. The programme for this fixture will comprise 50yds. men’s race, 50yds. ladies’ race, 50yds. boys’ race, 50yds. intermediate race, open handicap, 33|yds. ladies’ handicap, GGjiyde. boys’ handicap (second distance for the Loclcie Cup), neat dive, novelty race, and water polo competition. Two club events were set down for decision on .the first of the club nights at the Macrao baths, on December 0. The events will -be a 50yds. open handicap, for trophies presented by Mr C. E. Brown, and a 100yds. relay'for the club stars. Entries will close on December 5. Entries for the Bridson carnival on December 10 will be received up to the evening of December 7, it was decided, and no late entries will ibe dealt with. In view of the number of events that must be decided on the evening of the carnival, the committee decided further to conduct heats for tho C. Adair Cup race on the,evening of December 9. Votes of thanks were passed to members of the public who had assisted (the club in connection with the Gibbs Cup race on Monday evening. The club’a honorary instructor, Mr D. W. McKeague, mentioned that he had received a number of copies of a pamphlet on swimming, and would make them available to novices on application. He also intimated that ho would bo pleased to give instruction to any member of the club, or of the general public.
