SUPERANNUATION FUND
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS CLAIM FOR EX-SOLDIERS In connection with the proposed amendments of the Superannuation Act the point will be contested that exsoldiers should receive special consideration, and in support of this contention the following statement has been drawn up: As medical authorities throughout the world are of the opinion that the life of a soldier who served in the Great War lias been shortened by 'anything from seven to 10 years, but on a general average, five years, it is suggested that representations be made to the Government with a view of having special clauses m the interests of ex-service men inserted in the forthcoming legislation amending the Superannuation Act. It is suggested that the legislation he on the following lines: (a) That in view of the medical opinion expressed above all ex-service men be eligible to retire on the completion of 40 years’ sendee; (b) that any ex-service man compelled to retire owing to ill-health before he has completed 40 years’ service, have bis pension computed on his actual service and not on an actuarial basis; or (c) if computed on nil actuarial basis that five years be added to his service before such actuarial basis is arrived at.
