RUATORIA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) The following seventh annual repoTt of the Ngatiporou Co-operative Dairy Company, for the year ending July 31, 1932, will he presented to the shareholders at the annual meeting to be held in the Mauutahi Hall on Saturday, October 29, or such date as can be arranged. The absence of the chairman of directors, Sir Apirana Ngata, M.P., in Wellington, and the illness of the deputy chairman, Mr. J. M. Reedy, for the last four months renders it impossible at present to fix a dote.; “The output for the year,” states the report, “shows a decided increase on previous years, despite the severe drought in the middle of the season. These recurring dry periods, which have taken toll of production in four of the seven seasons .of the company’s operations, tend to show how imperative it is for suppliers to make provision to tide this period over with supplementary feed. The various outputs to date are: First season, 62 tons; second 'season, 130 tons; third season, 206 tons; fourth season, 285 tons; fifth season, 379 tons; sixth season, 344,) tons; seventh season, 459 i tons. During the season practically all produce was consigned and a good average price maintained. At July 31, however, a largo quantity of produce was still awaiting shipment and this was sold f.o.b. at a very satisfactory price, which enabled the company to pay a good bonus and clear stocks.; 37 boxes only of last seakon’3 produce still remain unsold. Costs over the season have decreased materially in every direction, and they are now down to a basis that bears more than favorable comparison with other country factories.” Advances to suppliers totalled £35,299 10s Bd, an increase of £7537 10s 2d on the previous year. The cost of cream carting was £2220 0s 7d, an increase of £324 8s 3d, but a decrease of ,09d per lb butterfat. Manufacturing tests totalled £4238 13s lOd, an increase of £249 19s 8d on the previous year, but 115 tons more butter was manufactured this season. Even with this there is a decrease of .3d per lb. butterfat. Charges to f.o.b. were £2IBB 16s 3d, showing an increase of £471 2s Id on last year, but a decrease of 03d per lb. butterfat. General expenses were £1353 13s lOd, showing ail increase of £152 14 s lOd, but a decrease of .07d per lb. butterfat. Butter sales came to £40.195 10s lid. showing an increase of £3372 18s lid. Stocks on hand were valued at £SOBI 18s 4d. When all sales and slocks are taken into ac count the total increase on last year is £8713 2s 3d. The table of averages compares very favorably with last season’s, being as follows (last season’s in parentheses) : Number of suppliers, 249 (219) ; butterfat received, 842,3001b5. (632,234 lbs); butter made, 1,029,49711xs (771,530 lbs); over run, 22.22 per cent. (22.03 per cent.); average paid for finest cream at factory door, 11.16 d (11.73 d). The amount of butter made from each pound of buterfat used for tho manufacture of butter was 1.22221bs (1.22031b5). The three directors who retire by rotation, but are eligible) for re-election, are Messrs Henry Dcwes, J. M. lieedy and Timi Tleihi. GISBORNE CRICKET TEAM’S VISIT A Gisborne cricket team visited Ruatoria during the week-end to play the Tuparoa Wanderers. The visitors gave a fine display of bowling and and fielding and were a little lucky to come out victorious. Only one innings was .played and the visitors won by the .small margin of three runs. The weait her remained fine, but the ground was heavy owing to the recent rains and .the grass being a shade too long. The pitch and wickets were in good order and both bowlers and batsmen wero pleased. Afternoon tea, provided by the ladies of the district, was dispensed under the supervision of Mesdamos W. Townson anil 11. Lunkon, with the aid of the local ladies. Tea was provided to till spectators as well as players, and was enjoyed by till. There was a record attendance of spectators, amongst whom was Mr K. 8. Williams, M.P. The numbers present indicate that cricket is gaining a strong hold in the district, and if a few more good matches aro obtained there will prob-

ably be another team enrolled. Scores: — GISBORNE Fla veil, 'b Hati 7 Scholium, bB.
