RUATORIA NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) Miss Mary Whin, only daughter of Mrs. J. Whin, Ruatoria, was married to Mr. .T. Dahm in Tikitiki on Wednesday. The bride is well known and liked by both Maori and pakeha. Mr. Dahm, a Vvell-kno\yn contractor in the district, is a son of Mr. J. T. Dahm, of Kuakituri. The newly married couple departed by car for Wairoa, where they will spend their honeymoon. Mr. Purvis, Government dairy inspector, Gisborne, is on a visit to the Ooast. While at the Ngatiporou dairy factory he referred to tho feed odour in cream, stating that it was due to the quick growth of the grasses this spring and to the exceptional amount of weeds which had appeared owing to the dry weather, lie also stated that no undue worry should be attached to the matter, as the flavor yvould possibly depart from the cream In about three weeks. The flavor is very noticeable just after separating, but if the cream is allowed to stand in a cool place it is barely noticed after an hour or two; also, if a cooler is used this counteracts the flavor. The bridge over tho Wainpu River, the third that has been erocted over this swift river, is now being repaired. This work ■ is giving-;employment to a large
number of the unemployed in the district. This and such work—as the land settlement scheme inaugurated by Sir Apirana Ngata for tho benefit of the Maoris t on the Coast—are absorbing practically ‘ all the unemployed. Large schemes are in operation at Wliareponga and Tuparoa, and these are under the supervision of Mr. J. Harvey, Gisborne,
