STRUCK BY TIDAL WAVE
DAMAGE IN NEW GUINEA AFTERMATH OF EARTHQUAKE SYDNEY, Dec. 30. Amalgamated Wireless,. Ltd:, has received 1 a fadio-message from its Manus station, New Guinea, saying that the steamer Duris felt the earthquake on the morning of December 24. A tidal wave struck the postern islands at a height of Bft. at Awinn and 4ft. at Pelluluhn. Houses and cattle at Awinn were washed out to sea. The manager and hoys escaped by -climbing palms. They are now living on the beach. The fate of Matty and Aua and the small unprotected Allison Island is unknown. The direction of the Wave was front the south-east. 1
