CUPID’S QUIETER YEAR
BUT INCREASE IN BIRTHS GISBORNE STATISTICS Compared with the previous 12 month's, tlio year just ended was a quieter one in Gisborne for Cupid, though the number of births show a slight, increase. Twelve more babies were born during December than in the corresponding month last year, while marriages fell off to the extent of seven, and deaths were increased by one. Figures for December, with those tor the corresponding period in 1929 given in parentheses, were: Births, 42 (30); deaths, 15 (14): marriages, 24 (31). Details for the past two years are. tabled below:—
The total number of birth's amongst the Maori population in Gisborne during 1930 was 43, compared with 42 for last year, while 37 deaths occurred m the course of the 12 months just ended, as against 51 during 1929. These figures are not included in the list given above.
