DAMAGE BY AMMONIA FUMES LEONGATTIA (Vic.), Dec. 10 At tlm Leongatha. Butter Factory Co.’s building a valve became loose on a cyelinder of the refrigerator, and when tiio manager, Mr. R. Hansen, put the machinery into operation, the piston rod shot forward and caused an explosion of ammonia in the condenser coils. Portion of Ihe cylinder went through the roof of the building, and ammonia fumes soon spread. The stall’ escaped hurriedly from the factory. There was a north wind blowing, and the fumes destroyed vegetation as far as 300yds from the factory. Trees, grass, beans, potato tops and plants were turned brown. It was over half an hour before tlie staff could return, to tlie factory.
