OPENING MATCH CARDS There was a good attendance of members ot the Poverty Bay (Jolt Club at Uie olhcial opening iunctiun, Jield on Saturday afternoon at the Awapuni links. Keen interest , was taken in the opening tournament, a Canadian foursome; and some, good cards were returned,: three pairs tieing for first place. The besv performance on Saturday was Uf, as against 70 for a similar competition at the close of last season Below is. a list of the eight best cards handed in : Miss Crawshaw and C. 0. KIRK-WINDEYER CUP 1 (far press Association.) • CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The golf contest for the KirkWindeyer Cup began at Shirley in line weather. The teams are: New Zealand: Horton, MacFarlane, Dr. Ross and Black. Victoria: Russoll, Ryan, Hancock, and Bulte. The foursomes, over 36 holes, are beijig .played to-day, and the singles tomorrow. LADIES’ UNION MATCHES ARRANGED (Per Press Association.) WFLLING’H X, this day. At the mid-year meeting ot the executive committee of the. New Zealand Ladies’ Coif Union, Mrs. Dudgshun was elected chairman. Dates for the ladies’ championship, 193 G, to be held at Heretaunga, we.e iixed for October 16 to 2j. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Guy Williams announced that she wished to present two challenge cups for an annual foursomes competition, tee event to be known as the autumn foursomes, with conditions as for handicap match pay Her offer was accepted, and it was decided that the match he called the “L.G.U. Autumn Foursomes.” At the same time the offer of the M:\nawatu Ladies’ Golf Club to bold ibis match on their links this year was accepted, the dates being tixcd for May 7, 8, and 9.
