FLAX-CUTTERS’ AWARD
NEW RATES OF PAY (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON X., this day. In face of - strong opposition by the millers, the Arbitration Court yesterday settled a long-standing dispute as to the rate of payment for the new methods of flax-cutting, by fixing the rate at 15s per ton for leaf cut by tlie “A shape method, and 13s 9d per ton for leaf cut by the- cone shape method. r J’he rate of pay was based on a test carrier oil at the suggestion of the court oil lines mutually agreed upon. The millers’ representative declared that the. industry could not stand this rate, but the bench pointed out that the present award had expired, and if the rates were found excessive, the parties could get together and endeavor to arrive at a more satisfactory rate.
