CANADIAN NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT WITH AUSTRALIA (El«c. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Deceived April 9. 2 p.m.) OTTAWA, April 8. That Canada*is ready to negotiate a complete exchange of preferences with Australia was announced by Mr. James Malcolm, Minister of. Trade and Commerce, u> a delegation representing lumber interests of British Columbia. Tho matter will be fully discussed, he said. with Mr. Kenton when he. visits Ottawa nil his way home from the Naval Conference. Mr. Malcolm hinted thai preliminary negotiations were now in progress, and action is particularly sought in connection with Canadian lumber. 'the delegation told the Minister that the recent trip in Australia showed that tho country was heartily in favor of extending trade within the Empire on a fair basis. Mr. .Malcolm reminded (he delegation that his predecessor, the late Mr. Robb, two years ago had expressed full accord with the proposal for full preference between tho two countries. The, delegation suggested that the Dominion Government should establish Canadian credits in Australian banks to facilitate financial transactions villi Australia. Their visit, there had shown the wisdom of some such arrangement. It had also shown a decided desire on the part of Australia that Canada, should import Australian wines, which the stated appeared decidedly reasonable and possible.
