CROPS AFFECTED WEATHER CAUSE OP TROUBLE (Kperial to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Investigations carried out by Mr-. D. V\. Reid, of tlie plant research station at Palmerston North, into the cause of straw break in wheat and oats, which has been causing growers in Canterbury considerable concern lately, lead him to believe that the trouble is the result solely of the unusual weather conditions and is not attributable to any fungus disease. This confirms the opinion expressed by Dr. Hilgendorf, who is in charge of cereal research work at Lincoln College. Mr. Reid made a special trip down here to study the damage. He took a number of samples away with him and found them to he entirely free from any suggestion of disease '
