WIN FOR WELLINGTON P.B. LOSE BY SIX WICKETS After gaining a lead of 80 on tho first innings, Poverty Bay gave Doneghue's Wellington ■ eleven a good opportunity to wm when the local side's second strike was disappointingly low. Left with 164 to win, Wellington went in shortly after 3 p.m., and had secured the necessary runs by 5.40 p.m. with the loss of only four wickets, the partnership botween Massey and Hepburn realising 97. Massey wielded, his bat confidently, securing two sixes and eight fours, giving a brilliant display. The opening pair, Capstick and Griffiths, batted carefully, and at tho

start' runs came slowly. The first reverse came at 24, when Olsen secured Griffiths' wicket. Tho 33 runs made before tho tea adjournment, took about three-quarters of an hour to compile. At that stage Capstick had secured 12 and Wand 7. Neither lasted long after the resumption, Olsen accounting for both, the second wicket falling for 39 and tho third at 42. Olsen was not only socuring the wickets, but .was also keeping down tho runs, until tho advent of Massey, who was tho only batsman to take liberties with Olsen's slow breaks, from which Massey hit throe boundaries, two of which were in one ever. Several bowling changes were tried at the southern end, but Olsen bowled 19 overs before he was relieved. Before this, however, Olsen had secured Doneghue's wicket, when the hoard showed 73. Massey and Hepburn made things lively, and 100 went up after 1| hours' play.. With the scoro at 140, Olsen returned to the bowling, but Massey hit his third ball for a six, and the next for three, while Hepburn sent the next for ono, Massey sending the sixth for four; the over yielded 14 runs, the most expensive over Olsen had bowled during tho day. This raised Massey's score ; to 63, and Hepburn's total stood at 23. Ihis practically ended the game, and the remaining 10 required to win were soon secured. Details were: POVERTY BAY.
