POOR FIELDING

PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. One of the most disappointing features of the Plunket .Shield cricket match is the remarkably poor fielding, catches being dropped right and loft bv both sides, Mcrritt and Henderson suffering severely from this cause. The slip fielding, particularly by the Wellington men, is especially weak. Three, and occasionally four, men are stationed there who never stopped a ball if of any pace, and missed nearly every chance given. To obtain these the field was stripped in other places, where the batsmen were able to score freely without fear, and for all the good they did one slip wmibl have been ample. Considering that eight of the men playing in the Wellington and Canterbury teams are in the New Zealand team there will have to be a vast improvement in their fielding if the bowlers are expected to get rid of the M.C.C. for a reasonable score.
