One is Miss Gladys Watkins, of Wellington, who also is the only New Zealnnder. Who is playing Christmas carols on '2?< of the bells for the Wellington War Memorial carillon in Hyde Park. It is hoped to have the complete range of .1(1 bells ready by January 1, for a try-out in Hyde Park before shipment to Wellington. Miss Watkins, who has been studying for a year at the famous carillon school in Malines, Belgium, will be the carilloner when, the memorial is erected in Wellington. In a preliminary recital Miss Watkins received a warm ovation from large crowds of shoppers on Christmas Eve. The police had to clear the way for Miss Watkins through the mass of appreciative listeners.
