THE SILTON HALL
RESCUE OF CREW
A radio message received at Perth (W.A.) from the steamer Anthea, which hastened to the rescue of the burning steamer Stlton Hall, states that on Saturday at 8 a.m. she picked up an SOS stating: “On fire in No. 3 hold. Urgently want assistance.’’ The Am then was 400 miles from the Silton Hall, but was soon racing all out in heavy seas. Another message was later received stating: “Eire out of all control. Standing by in lifeboats. Please come to our assistance.” As (ho approached great tongues of flame were seen issuing from the Silton Ilall, which was blazing fore and aft, The bridge and wireless room had gone. Owing to the heavy gale and sea rescue operations were performed with sonic> difficulty. A lifeboat .with 17 of the crow was found near the vessel, and the men were all transferred safely in the heavy sea, and an hour later the other boat launched from the burning ship was picked up and its occupants rescued.
