MISSING YACHT SAFE
MISHAP IN MID-OCEAN Advice that the keel yacht Wairiki, concerning which considerable anxiety had been felt in Auckland since Sunday, in view of her non-arrival at Tauranga with other competitors in the annual ocean race, is safe, and the crew well, was received on Wednesday morning. A message from Coromandel states that the yacht put into that port at 10 o'clock to report that she was safe. It is learned that the Wairiki broke a shroud when off Cape Colvine about 2.30 on Sunday morning. The vessel was turned on another tack, but this immediately caused the backstay to give way. Though disabled the yaeht managed to make Te Kume on Sunday, and remained there for two daj'9 to effect repairs. The crew, realising that their relatives must be anxious, made for Coromandel and telephoned their story. The yacht is owned by Mr. S. R. Speight, of 25.1 Karangahape road. The crew consisted of the owner, his son, and three others. —■ Sun.
