£250,000 FOR A SOCIALIST M.P.
LONDON, Nov. 2. Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, Socialist M.P. for Central Newcastle, who succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father, Sir George Otto Trevelyan, last August, will divide equally with his brother, Dr. George Maeaulay Trevelyan, the bulk of his father's fortune of £556,933. The late Sir George, a nephew of the famous Lord Macauiay, was both a man of letters and a statesman. To the new baronet he left all his real and leasehold property in Northumberland and his household and personal effects not otherwise bequeathed; to his son George £30,000; and to his son Robert £IOOO, stating that he was already provided for under his mother's will. Sir George left £6OO and a life annuity of £6O to his but'.er, Arthur Heard, "who played the man on the Somme in France." The residue of his property is to bo divided equally between bis sons Charles and George. Sir Charles Trevelyan, who is 58, has been Socialist M.P. for Central Newcastle since 1922. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education in the Liberal Administrations from 19051 until 1914, when he resigned as a protest against Great Britain entering the war.
