OBITUARY
SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S OLDEST COLONIST (Received June 21, noon). " ADELAIDE, June 21. By the death of Mrs. Marianne Fisher, who celebrated her 100th birthday in February last, South Australia has lost its oldest colonist, and also lost a living link with the ship Buffalo, which brought the first settlers to South Australia in 1830. Deceased, who was a daughter of the late Sir James Hurtle Fisher, was aged 10 when she arrived from England.
MR. A. H. WHITTINGHAM BRISBANE, June 20. The death of Mr. A. H. Wittingham, one of Queensland's most prominent pastoralists and sportsmen. He was a native of New Zealand. MR. JOHN R. OLIVER (Per Press Association.) OHRISTC-HURCH, this day. The death is reported of Mr. John R. Olliver, 49, after a short illness. He was one of the best-known sporting journalists in the Dominion, and was on the staff of' the Referee for 28 years, for the last eighteen months as editor.
There passed away recently in Ohinemutu. Te Wheoro Poui VVahio Pongo, a zealous and consistent Maori Christian gentleman of t>l years' consecration, having been appointed a lay reader in 1876 by Archdeacon Samuel Williams of riawke's May district. The deceased assisted in building St. Faith's in the pa, the first church in ltotorua. In conjunction with Mr. W. T. Williams, tie assisted to lay the foundation stone of the new church, and suggested and helped to carry out the scheme of Maori decoration, a ■ work of love with Te Wheoro and greatly admired by all visitors.
