TOKOMARU CHURCH FAIR.

Te Puka Hall was a gay scene pn the occasion of the “All Nations Fair,” held to raise funds for the new Anglican Church at Tokomaru Bay. The fair was officially opened jjy Mr. A. B. Williams.

On all sides in the hall were gaily decorated booths, presided over by ladies wearing costumes to represent various nation's, each booth being in the colors of its respective national flag. In the centre was a Christmas Tree loaded with such things as appeal to the children at this time of the year. Amongst tlio ladies who assisted were: Christmas Tree, Misses Angus and Burdett,' wlio wore Eastern costumes; sweets stall, Mrs. 0. Oates and Miss C. O&tes. in Dutqh cost'urpes; baby stall, Mrs. Mclntyre and the Misses Pepper (purses)-, plait} needlework, Mesdames Moore apd Keene (Ireland) ; "produce, Mesdames Murphy and l|ol)eyep, and Miss JJolloycr (Japanese); hpicywork, Misses Busby (Quaker); icecicam, Mrs. Bmeny, Mrs. Pollock and Miss Emeny (Italian); toys, Mesdames Pepper and Walden (French): cakes, Mrs. and Miss Johnson (Old English). The hall was crowded throughout the afternoon arid evening, and business so brisk time the funds of the church are expected to benefit by at least £2OO. In the evening Mrs. Gold waltz’ concert party of local artists presented several items which Were very well received. The chorus consisting of Misss Burdett, Camp, Angus, Grant, 1). Pepper, C. Oates and Messrs. Hamilton and Boves gave a well rehearsed rendering of “Valentina,” and later were heard in a medley of popular airs. Master Stan. Oonole, in negro costume, sang “My Old Kentucky Home,” with chorus from the wings. Great merriment was caused when Miss C. Oates as ’“Fa” and Mr. H. Hamilton as “Ma” sang their comic song, with an appropriate step-dance, under the title “Are You?-—Yes I Yam!”
