At a meeting of the executive of the Waikato sub-provincial branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr. W. fi. Worster made the interesting statement that on his farm the blackberries had contracted a blight and were now, after two years, quite dead. He regretted that it was necessary for him now to plough the area where the blackberries were, as he considered some method might have been found of propagating the blight.

Thousands of town and country people assembled on Tahuna sands, Xelson, on Monday, when a gala was held, under tho auspices of the Tahuna Sands Association, to provide funds .for improving this popular seaside resort. A comprehensive scheme of improvement has been drawn up by Mr Hurst Seagar, and when completed will add materially to the convenience and pleasure of the public. The programme was varied, and was heartily entered into by a large mimber of pleasure seekers, a big majority of whom were young folk. Everything passed off successfully, and a substantial* amount should be realised. The weather conditions were perfect.

Adequate preparations are already being made, by the Railway Department for the comfort of the Duke and Duchess of York during their visit to the Dominion (states an exchange). One of the new sleeping cars now being constructed at the Petone workshops to the design of the chief mechanical engineer'(Mr. G. S. Lynde) is being temporarily altered to accommodate Their Royal Highnesses and suite durtheir tour of-the North Island, and when completed the decorations will be appropriate to the reception of Royalty. A Ministerial car will he utilised during tho visit to the South Island. Subsequently the sleeper will be converted into the latest standard sleeping car, similar to that now attached to the Limited express, and which was on exhibition at Dupedin.
