COAL CONTROVERSY
GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS REJECTED BY DISTRICTS MORE MINERS RETURNING (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association , LONDON, October 5. There is little doubt that the Government's proposals for a settlement of tlie coal strike will be rejected- by the districts, though (he number of men working- in the mines continues to increase daily. The miners' leaders are busy evolving a plan to counter the threatened split. It ip suggested that- t lie .Midland and Yorkshire miners may be instructed to return to work on the understanding that a- lew is made on their wages to help other districts where the struggle will be continued.
