In connection with the outbreak of typhoid fever at Tpngojo and' West-■pHoi-e ' (he Director of the Public Hygiene Division, Dr. McKibbon, accoriipaiiied by the Medical "Officer for Health "for the East Coast District, Dr. fiercer, are now in Napier. A'typhoid outbreak can be dealt with at once independent of investigations, as to its origin and in this connection .the anti-typhoid vaccine has been of great assistance to the Department, of Health in recent years because it givJeS immunity to epptacts without' greatly inconveniencing them. Since improved "sanitation in towns protected the urban population, most of tlio typhoid outbreaks have been amongst the, Maoris, as ,on Uiis opcasion,',and. in such, oases the inoculating of the Maoris with ' vaceine—sometjines ~,done bv Maori nurses—has proved effective.
