THE EPIDEMIC HOLIDAY.
SCHOOL CHILDREN BENEFITED. WORK NOT BEHIND. Doctor Elizabeth Gnn.n. speaking at a meeting of tin* Wanganui Education Board, stated that in visiting tjie schools in the district she was impressed with the general physique of the children. She did not think the long holidays due to (he infantile paralysis epidemic had done any harm. She had inquired from teachers in both town and country schools and had learned that-work was not behind, which was definite proof that, the holidays had not, been detrimental. while the health of the children had improved. She would like, in view of her observations, to see the school holidays extended tortile end of. Foby mnry, of course, under certain restrictions and with provision for nature study, games, etc. Her experience was that during short holidays both children and teachers took too much out of thornsol ves and returned to work tired. The fact of children not now being behind with their work as the result of a long holiday, and through being kept under restriction, showed how beneficial the enforced outdoor spell had been.
