GOOD FIELDS PROMISED.
p.M. TURF CLUB’S MEETING
The Poverty Bay Turf Club’s spring meeting, to be held at the Makaraku course on Thursday and Saturday, gives promise of good keen sport, and should draw a big attendance. The weather, which was most unpromising (luring the week-end, and indeed utilii to-day, appears likely to become more settled, and only a really bad day can spoil the prospects of good racing. The acceptances for the first day’s events comprise chiefly Poverty Bay, East Coast and Bay of Plenty horses, hut the quality is fairly even. The Maiden Scurry will bring out a 'big field, even though the withdrawals are on a liberal scale, on the day. The Rose land Hack Handicap has seventeen acceptors, ranging from Sunlikc. with 8.9, down to Serenade with 7.2, and a. bunch of seven-stoners. The First Hurdles should be a keen contest, and the Welter field comprises ten fairly competent performers. The Junction Handicap has some well-per-formed acceptors, most of wjiicli have their names in for the Flying. The last race of the day, Hie October Handicap, of one mile, has a fair selection of acceptors, including Manutai, Garyon, amt Cohesion.
'l’lie course arrangements will be in the hands of experienced officers.
