CUSTOMS RETURNS.
INCREASE IN THE FIGURES
That this district has successfully weathered the slump period, and is now returning to an era of increased prosperity, is shown by this year's Customs figures. Each month of the past year has shown an increase over the returns for the corresponding month of the previous year, and the total increase for the year amounts to £20,409 7s Id. The beer duties show a decrease of £733 for.the year. ' The following are the figures for December, the /December quarter, andfor the • year, together with the previous year's figures (given within parentheses) ■ Customs returns: December, £5267 'l&sTOd (£436312s Id); December quarter, £20,697 7s (£16,762 18s); year, £75,231 Us 10s (£54,822 4s 9d). Beer duties: December, £1613 (£1414 9s lid);" December quarter, £3686 6s 2d (£4040 7s 10d); year, £13,664 5s 7d (£14,398 4s lid). ,
