HOCKEY.

The country ladies’ hockey tournament for the Haapu Rose Bowl and Kerekeri Cup, was continued this afternoon. In order to give the usual hockey ground a chance of recovering from the soaking it received this morning, the soccer ground was used for this afternoon’s play, and though rough, was quite dry.

MANUTUKE DEFEATS MAHAKI. Tho Manutuke team met Mahaki, and in a warmly-contested game, showed a considerable superiority in the matter of combination. Their forwards wore fast and fairly accurate in their bitting, and through the first half spent much of the time inside tho Mahaki 25. Tho Mahaki defence was effective until well on in the half, when Miss Hepburn (Mahutuke), broke through and scored with n fast shot which beat the goalie. Manutuke 1, Mahaki nil. , Mahaki rallied, and Miss Pore put in n good dribbling run down the left wing, but for lack of support (his and later runs failed of their objective. The Manutuke forwards again threatened the Mallaki goal, and Miss Whaiteri sent in a shot that financed off the post over the hack line. Tho half concluded with tho play fn Manutuke’s 25, tho ball having gone up with a Mahaki rush.

The second half served to show still further the superiority of the Manutuke forwards, but though play repeatedly centred the Mahaki goal, the score at' the conclusion of the game was still Manutuke 1, Mahaki nil.
