TRAMWAYS.

(To the Editor ol Hie Herald./

Sir, —I see that the City Fathers have discovered a noval method of financing another tramcar by selling to the electrical department the machine shop for £ISOO. Now, I understand that the electrical department have little or no use for sumo, but that the tramway department will use it just the same as they have done in the past. Now, sir, why should the electrical department be burdened with something they can very well do without t This will become a charge on the electrical undertaking out of all, proportion to its usefulness to Ihe department. If the City Fathers like this kind of financing, I suggest that they should sell one of the tramears, which has now becomo a kind of fixture in the machine shop, to the electrical department as a hut for the night watchman. They could easily sell it in the same manner for tho sum of £2OOO, which could bo spent in putting the track in Gladstone road in order. I protest against this kind of juggling. It means that the electrical users will have to pay for something that the department really does not acquire. If the electrical department is so financial that they can afford to> make a present to the tramways of £ISOO, then it is time for tho price of current to consumers to bo reduced. —1 am, etc., AUTOLYOUS.
