FOOTBALL.

The Rugby Union -met last night. Present: Messrs. W. Howard (chairman), P. C. Edinondson, J. 11, Miller, J. O'Neill, M. V. Hell, J. Jones and E. Poswlllo. A telegram was received from the Bay of Plenty Union stating that the Bay of Plenty team would arrive on September 2'», and meet , Poverty Bay at. Gisboi'ne.—The secretary was entrusted with the matter of arranging the accommodation for the visiting team. \ Accounts totalling £15 12s. were passed for payment. , The Tolaga Bay School wrote acknowledging receipt of two footballs donated by the Union for the use of scholars — Received. The atfiliation fee to the New Zealand Rugby Union (of £2. 25.) was passed for payment. The Tolaga Sub-Union wrote inquiring when a Poverty Bay team wnnid visit Tolaga for a match against the local fifteen.— lt was decided to reply, stating that efforts would he made to send a team to Tolaga on October 2. It was decided to grant the sum of £5 r>s. towards the medical expenses of a player (Tuhoe), who sustained a broken leg iv the match played between Tolaga Bay and Poverty Bay on July 31. The- secretary, reported that, no reply' had been received from the Waiapu. SubUnion respecting the matter of disqualified players, and suggested that the subunion be informed that unless a satisfactory reply was forwarded by return mail, the matter would be reported to the New Zealand Rugby Union, and this was adopted. Some discussion ensued with regard to the New Zealand Rugby Union's scheme for insuring players. 1 and it was decided to intimate that the Poverty Bay Union was m sympathy with the scheme. An amount of £25 16s. for ground fee, was authorised for payment to the Council for the use of the reserve. ' The fixture arranged for next Saturday was: P.B. senior reps. v. P.B. junior (reinforced) reps., on the No. i ground I at 3 p.m. Permission was also granted for the i match Napier Boys' High School v. Gisborne High School, played this afternoon. Some discussion took place concerning the pending visit of the South African I team to New Zealand, and regret was expresssed that Gisborne was not included m the itinerary.
