A trawler reports witnessing an encounter between British patrol ships and two submarines off the Scottish coast. Subsequently five German destroyers were seen returning to Zeebrugge, two with a heavy list. The German Admiralty's communique states: German torpedo boats from Flanders carried out a raid towards the Thames Estuary. When returning they met several small British cruisers and destroyers. A brief gun duel took place. We scored some hits. Our boats returned undamaged. The High Commissioner reports: — LONDON, July 24, 2.15 p.m. The Admiralty reports : On Saturday at- midnight near North Hinder lightship, some of our light forces sighted three enemy destroyed, who retired with no damage.
