GERMAN COMMUNIQUES.
(Reuter's Telegram.). AMSTERDAM, July 22. A .German communique asserts that the Allies have abandoned the great uniform attacks on the Somme after defeats on the previous days, The Germans' claim to have captured many prisoners when they cleared the British out near Foureaux Wood. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) AMSTERDAM, July 22. A German communique statea:Yesterday's English attacks m the Fromelles region by two strong divisions was repulsed. We counted two thousand bodies m front of our lines. The enemy's strong attack with over two hue dred thousand men on both banks of the Somme failed. The enemy captured only three kilometres of our front line southward of Hardecourt. Southward of Riga the enemy's feeble attackfailed. The Russian attempts to cross the Dvina on both sides of the Friedrichstadt were prevented. (Received July 24, 1.15 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, July fc., A German communique states: British infantry attacks on the Thiepval and Guillemont front failed, with heavy losses. There has been .violent hand-to-hand fighting near Pozieres.
