ADVANCE IN MESOPOIAMIA
FRONTAL AND FLANKING ATTACKS PUSHED HOME. DIOEDS OF HEROISM. LONDON. January 22. The Daily Telegraph's correspondent dietails the advance in' Mesopotamia. The frontal attack pinned the enemy m trenches during the day, where he wa^ exposed to heavy fire before dark. Both the frontal and Hanking attacks were pushed home with great gallantry. Although there was no cover, (we gained a .footing m the enemy trenches. Tho enemy retiired during the night of the 13th, and our troops advanced and captured the position. The enemy was driven into a neck of land between swampy ground and a river, five miles from our position. The gallantry of the ammunition carriers was wonderful. They crossed 1 ground under a hail of fire, with am: munition boxes balanced on their heads. The Turkish losses 1 were heavy. We buried 350 m one morning.
